Project Description:
Come Write In was a landscape build that I created for a client. She created a virtual space for the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) event that happens every November. The vision for this project was to create a serene virtual nature space in which people could come and “rent” cabins for their writing purposes. The client wanted to have private spaces for writers as well as communal areas for group writing sessions and activities.
We started with the main landing area which had a firepit area with seating around it. To the left was a communal kitchen and eating area with a couple of small buildings on either side which could be used as conference or meeting areas. Around the perimeter of the communal firepit area were other hangout areas with games, etc.
From this area, visitors could then take a path that led down and into the main area, where the lake was located.
Along the pathway down and into the lake area and around the lake were 5 private cabins that came with radios so writers could get in the zone to their favorite music. Many of the cabins also had second desks for writing teams, and comfortable relaxing places for people to use for their avatars if they were tabbed out writing or chatting in the NoNoWriMo forums.
This was one of my favorite client builds. It was fun to take the ideas that the client wanted and bring them to life and create a place where other people could come and be creative. This project was a Destination Guide Editors Pick for October 2022.
