Project Description:
Sonder is a collaborative community project, conceptualized and created by myself and Teagan Lefevre of Le’eaf&Co. It was driven by our deep love and affection for Second Life’s Mainland and all its possibilities. This harmonious and inclusive community is truly a venture of love.
We put a lot of thought into creating this community and spent a lot of time getting the details just right. Location was the first and most important part of this project. Currently Sonder is situated amidst the captivating landscapes of Heterocera’s Lake District, but this was actually our second location choice for our project and it ended up being the best choice in the end. Sonder is located off Sandygrass Road on the sim of Gunda with plenty of abandoned land available nearby for people to become a part of the community and add their own projects.
When it came to planning Sonder, we knew we wanted two main areas – the village square and a rural residential area. The village square area includes Sonder Lake, with fresh-water DFS fishing and is also home to the Lake District Association office and Barista Babes Coffee (because it can’t be an Emm or Teagan build without coffee somehow being involved). You can also find a MyStory compatible café along with a flower shop and the Sonder Book Shop, which houses information about The Nature Collective’s book club along with books from other SL authors, including Soull Starlight of Dulla Centre notoriety. Up a short flight of stairs, visitors will find Sonder Brewing Co., a quaint brewery with music, games, trivia and in-house brewed MyStory compatible ale that is for sale. Down the sidewalk from Sonder Brewing Co., is the bakery and art shop and 2 lofts available for rent. The village lofts also include a private gated residential area with barbeque, picnic tables and raised garden beds that will fit both DFS and MyStory crops.
Back down the stairs, the passageway, which leads right by the flower shop and book shop, opens up into the outskirts of Sonder village. This area includes a Teegle horse rezzer for residents and visitors to use to further explore Sonder and the surrounding Mainland area. It also includes a rural Pub, which is housed in an old windmill. The top floor of the pub is a private residence with stunning deck views of the entire area. This residence is not for rent but the pub downstairs is open to residents and visitors alike!
The rural outskirts of Sonder also are home to several cottage rentals including Mockingbird Cottage, Maple Cottage and The Meadows Dairy Cottage. All cottage plots include landscaping and the cottages and were designed to be move-in ready for residents. Cottages do come unfurnished although we are available to help with special requests. Down the road and over the bubbling stream is a private communal hangout space for residents that includes an outdoor kitchen and dining table, relaxation area with furniture and outdoor fireplace and games including a Greedy blanket, nestled among the wildflowers.
With future plans already in place for expansion, Sonder is a burgeoning Mainland community with plenty of ways for people to become involved. We made every effort to create a harmonious and inclusive community that warmly embraces all wanderers who venture here.
